I was a family physician at Hometown Health Centers (formerly Schenectady Family Health Services) for eleven years. I was also the health center's medical director from 2000 to 2002.
My wife, Tracy, and I have lived in Niskayuna since 1988. We have two school aged children, Maggie and Sam.
I completed my Family Practice residency in Vermont where I received broad based training overlapping internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics. I then accepted a position at Schenectady Family Health Services, Schenectady's community health center. This gave me the opportunity to hone my skills treating a wide variety of patients and illnesses as well as deliver many more babies than I would in a private family practice.
While serving as the medical director I developed an interest in changing health care delivery to continuously improve patient care and service. I remained frustrated, however, always running behind yet never feeling my patients were receiving the time and attention they needed. Opening a concierge medicine practice sounded appealing but the fees of this type of practice would have been too high for most of my patients.
I began investigating ideal micropractices (see www.impcenter.org) where primary care physicians streamline their systems and dramatically reduce overhead. They are then freed to spend more time with each patient without having to see large volumes in order to cover expenses. I decided to take the plunge and give this model of solo practice a try.
I invite you to join me in making this practice model a success.
